Getting to Bodrum
By Plane
Turkey has a number of airline carriers and the official airline of the country is the Turkish Airline (THY). Almost every international airline has regular flights connecting Turkey's international airports to major cities worldwide. Several European cities are also connected seasonally to the resort cities of Turkey by international carriers. Details can be obtained from your travel agency.
The Milas-Bodrum Airport is located about 35 km from Bodrum and there are HAVAS Shuttle services between the city and the airport. The trip takes about 40 to 45 minutes and the ticket fare from Bodrum Centre to the airport is about TL 15,- (EUR 7,50). Located about three hours away from Bodrum are the Izmir and Dalaman airports.
By Boat
The Greek islands of Rhodes and Cos are connected to Bodrum by the sea route. During the summer season, there are daily ferry services between Bodrum and the two islands.
By Bus
The major Turkish cities of Ankara, Adana, Bursa, Istanbul, Izmir, Konya, and others are connected to Bodrum by bus services that are operated by several intercity bus companies. A bus trip from Istanbul to Bodrum takes about 13 hours, Izmir and Bodrum are about 4 hours apart, while Ankara to Bodrum takes about 10 hours.
Getting Around Bodrum
By Road
One of the best and most inexpensive ways to get around Bodrum is by riding the dolmus, which is a minibus service that follows a fixed route where passengers can get in and out the dolmush at every place they wish. Downtown Bodrum, its two harbours and the main beach can all be covered on foot. A car is not necessary unless you plan to explore the countryside.
By Plane
London and several other major European cities are connected by direct flights with the Milas-Bodrum Airport. There are frequent flights even from the London Luton Airport. The international terminal at the Milas-Bodrum Airport is relatively new and its facilities include ATMs, currency exchange facilities, bars, cafés, rent-a-car facilities and duty-free shops.
Ground transportation in the form of minibuses, taxis, and an Airport -Bodrum shuttle conveniently ferry people to the resorts and towns located near Bodrum. The airport bus service to the town centre is operated by HAVAS. Fixed-price taxis also ply along the same route.
By Hired Car
Visitors can book cars in advance and pick them up at the airport. It is a straightforward and easy drive from the airport to Bodrum along the new highway. The trip to the town centre takes about 30 minutes. The highway travels through very picturesque surroundings and the roads are in good shape. The drive along the coast to Izmir and onwards to Antalya are especially enjoyable. However. As Bodrum has a very small centre with narrow streets it is recommended to do as much as possible by walking. There are good parking facilities at the entrances to the city centre.
By Coachand Minibus
There are couch services between Bodrum and most major cities of Turkey. Every city in Turkey has a main Busstation from where the couches or intercities depart . Easiest way to find these busstations is by taxi. Bodrum's bus station is located on Cevat Sakir Street. The most popular way of travel within and around Bodrum is by dolmush. There are connections with all nearby villages and beaches. Ask for your destination and passers-by will show you the right point of depart. There is no railway service to Bodrum town.
By Taxi
Travelling around by taxi is not a very expensive affair in Bodrum. Taxi stands are located outside the major Bodrum hotels, the harbour, the main beach, around the central bus stand and at the airport. Although the taxi fare between the airport and the town, as well as to certain other destinations, is supposed to be fixed, it is wisest to confirm the fare with the driver before getting into the taxi. Try to find the fare lists that are hung on (many) taxi stands.
